That lovable matriarch and unstoppable force of nature Madea (played by writer/director Perry) returns to familiar, warmhearted territory—family—in this tough, tender, righteous and riotous sequel to the smash hit Diary of a Mad Black Woman. This time around, serious problems arise as Madea plans a family reunion. Her nieces are experiencing trials of love, as well as domestic violence, and Madea is doing her all-out best to be a mother to a young runaway in need of direction. It may sound serious, but with love, a sense of humor and her ever-present pistol, Madea’s plans won’t be delayed for long. An exceptional cast includes Lynn Whitfield (Head of State), in a stinging portrayal of an embittered mother whose two daughters have troubles of their own, Maya Angelou (How to Make an American Quilt) and a rare appearance by Cicely Tyson (A Woman Called Moses), whose climactic speech will have you cheering. Extras include director’s commentary, deleted scenes, a making-of featurette and more. Click on the “Extra Features” tab above for additional information.

Rotten: Nothing that happens seems the least bit believable, and everything is brash and loud. All that's missing is the laugh track.
-Randy Cordova, Arizona Republic, March 10, 2006Fresh: Perry's vaudevillian shamelessness and indifference to committee-approved taste are energizing and frequently jaw-dropping.
-Jim Ridley, Village Voice, March 07, 2006Rotten: Tyler Perry's heart is in the right place, but he still has a tin ear.
-Christy Lemire, Associated Press, March 07, 2006Fresh: Let's not sell Tyler Perry short. As the vinegar-witted Madea, he's a drag performer of testy charm, but in his overlit patchwork way he's also making the most primal women's pictures since Joan Crawford flexed her shoulder pads.
-Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, March 01, 2006
