Fresh: It clocks in at over three hours, but Peter Jackson's remake of the 1933 classic is gripping nonetheless.
-Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader, May 29, 2011Fresh: As it is a remake, it doesn't have the shock Lord Of The Rings possessed upon its release, but this is a beautiful beast of a B-movie, thrilling and touching.
-, Film4, May 29, 2011Fresh: It takes a while to get everybody to Skull Island, about 70 minutes, but it's time extremely well-spent.
-Bob Mondello, NPR.org, October 18, 2008Fresh: A bit more time in the editing room could've lifted it into great blockbuster territory. instead we've got a sporadically entertaining escapade that never captures our hearts like it so desperately wants too.
-Garth Franklin, Dark Horizons, January 15, 2008
I have to agree with Jim. I would like to have been able to pick an alternate ending where Kong survives and goes back to his kingdom.

King Kong is well made and all but what's the point in it being all epic and making King Kong have a heart of gold if it was just going to make his predictable death so heart-breaking. Plus I was hoping Kong would eat Jack Black with his one last breath when he said "beauty killed beast", you took Kong off the island, so no...you killed the beast. Hate that ending..
