Tyler Perry (Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Madea’s Family Reunion) uses his winning recipe of family, community and love to prove that today’s audiences, over-wrought with explosions and computer-generated special effects, still like a warm, funny love story once in a while, just to balance things out. The lovely Gabrielle Union stars as Julia, a hard-nosed attorney who meets Monty, a single father (Idris Elba) of three little girls who is struggling to make ends meet as he calls upon her services while his ex-wife tries to gain custody of the kids. Although from two different worlds, a passionate, unlikely romance blossoms between the couple, even as they battle the forces that threaten to tear Monty’s family apart. Perry stays behind the camera on this one, leaving the leading lady duties to Union. A wise, wonderful move. A warm, wonderful movie.
