A nice rest in a state mental hospital beats a stretch in the pen, right?
Director Milos Forman's (Amadeus, Hair, Ragtime) heart-wrenchingly poetic adaptation of the Ken Kesey novel comes to Blu-ray in a stunning Ultimate Collector's Edition that will inspire and open film-goers' eyes in a whole new way.
Randle P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson in his 1976 Best Actor Oscar®-winning role), a free-spirited con with lightning in his veins and glib on his tongue, fakes insanity and moves in with what he calls the "nuts." Immediately, his contagious sense of disorder runs up against numbing routine. No way should guys pickled on sedatives shuffle around in bathrobes when the World Series is on. This means war! On one side is McMurphy. On the other is soft-spoken Nurse Ratched (Best Actress Oscar® winner 1976, Louise Fletcher), among the most coldly monstrous villains in film history. At stake is the fate of every patient on the ward.
The first film in over 40 years to win five major Academy Awards® (Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay), director Milos Forman's masterpiece also stars Will Sampson, Danny DeVito, William Redfield, Christopher Lloyd and Brad Dourif.
This is an example of a film that just gets better with time. Simply breathtaking.

Fresh: There's a lot here. But with a classic like Cuckoo's Nest, too much is never enough.
-Chris Nashawaty, Entertainment Weekly, September 09, 2010Rotten: One Flew over the Cuckoo 's Nest is an earnest attempt to make a serious film. But in the end the movie backs away from both the human reality and the cloudy but potent symbolism that Ken Kesey found in the asylum.
-Richard Schickel, TIME Magazine, February 20, 2009Fresh: Viewed 30 years after its release, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest remains a very good motion picture, although one that perhaps just misses the pinnacle of greatness where its reputation suggests it resides.
-James Berardinelli, ReelViews, November 04, 2008Fresh: The film remains as fresh, shocking, depressing and exhilarating as when it was released.
