Johnny Depp heads an all-star cast of vocal talent in a wild, wooly and wholly hilarious animated Western adventure.
Follow the comical, transformative journey of Rango, a sheltered chameleon living as an ordinary family pet, while facing a major identity crisis. After all, how high can you aim when your whole purpose in life is to blend in?
When Rango accidentally winds up in the gritty, gun-slinging town of Dirt—a lawless outpost populated by the desert's most wily and whimsical creatures—the less-than-courageous lizard suddenly finds he stands out. Welcomed as the last hope the town has been waiting for, Sheriff Rango is forced to play his new role to the hilt…until, in a blaze of action-packed encounters with outrageous characters, Rango starts to become the hero he once only pretended to be.
Highlighted by brilliant color and state-of-the-art animation, Rango “is often astonishing in its giddy creativity” (Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News).

Fresh: Brilliantly bonkers, this animated Western weirdo should scare little kids while dazzling adults with its inspired approach to demented homage.
-Zach Gibson, Empire Magazine Australasia, April 13, 2011Rotten: Just when you thought you'd seen everything, here comes Chinatown, the animated version.
-Rafer Guzman, Newsday, March 25, 2011Fresh: A welcome change from formula as it travels on tangents that vary from the crazed to the surreal
-Garth Franklin, Dark Horizons, March 15, 2011Fresh: Though young children may enjoy it, the film is built for viewers of any age with a taste for joyful anarchy.
-Bruce Diones, New Yorker, March 14, 2011
The fact that the film is animated should not be confused with children's cartoons. Not since Silverado debuted as a "cinematic tour de force" has a western come along that captures the genre in a tongue-in-cheek action film. Johnny Depp is deeply imbedded in Rango, a characterization that reflects what Jack Sparrow might have done in the old west. The film isn't perfect, but it is a terrific break from more intense movies and forced-laugh comedies. If you are looking for something light and enjoyable, put your sights on Rango and draw, Pilgrim.

Not great; definitely not for younger kids in my opinion; language was rough in parts; rather dark and animals were somewhat creepy. My daughter and I both thought it was just strange.

Was a very boring movie to me BUT the commentary at the end where they show a man in the desert telling you about each creature in the movie was quite interesting and exciting to watch! =]
