It arrives.
In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local sheriff's deputy tries to uncover the truth—something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.
Writer/director J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) teams with producer Steven Spielberg for this 70's set sci-fi thriller starring Kyle Chandler (TV's Friday Night Lights, King Kong) and Elle Fanning, delivering all the thrills, visual dazzle and emotional depth you'd hope for from these two entertainment giants.

Fresh: Monsters, aliens, trains and a small town that doesn't want to know the truth. What more could one ask for from a summer movie?
-, Film4, August 08, 2011Fresh: Super 8 is the most intensely Spielbergian film you'll ever see that Steven Spielberg didn't actually direct himself. And it's early Spielberg!
-David Sexton, This is London, August 05, 2011Fresh: The geekery has charm, but is a little self-conscious and just occasionally, this movie resembles an open-ended, rambling drama serial that gets a little, well, lost.
-Peter Bradshaw, Guardian [UK], August 04, 2011Fresh: Super 8 is the sweetest film of 2011, an affectionate shout-out to amateurs everywhere.

This movie was really good. It totally surprised me and was not at all what I expected. I think it should have had more credit than it was given.

Although I did expect more of a Sci-Fi flick, this is one of those movies that I could never get tired of watching. Original storytelling and well-blended cast. I liked the idea of watching a movie being made, while watching the movie -- it was like getting two movies in one.

We thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I was a little doubtful that at 64 I'd enjoy this but it was very good. I think they should have marketed it better. Like ET, it appeals to a wider audience, kids and adults. there's something for the whole family to enjoy.
